Our training and development programmes focus on capacity building[JCN1]  to develop competitiveness aimed at achieving meaningful and long-term participation in the mainstream food supply value chain by the majority of young people in South Africa and on the African continent. African Greeneurs offers two (2) programmes; the 12 months AG agripreneurs development and Agri-SETA learnership programmes. [JCN1]Training and skills transfer is part of capacity building.

12-month Agripreneur Development Programme

12 month AG Agripreneur Development Programme

Business & Technical Skills Training

The AG Agripreneur Development Programme is a comprehensive 12-months training programme that caters to Agri graduates and those with no prior knowledge in agriculture. The programme provides business and technical skills training and uses modern facilities to develop young people into cutting-edge agripreneurs.

The AG Agripreneur Development Programme is divided into two phases:

1.    Activate Phase - The Activate Phase is an intensive three (3) month business and technical skills training. This phase provides the trainees with the knowledge they need to run a successful agribusiness operation.

2. Accelerate Phase - The Accelerate Phase is a 9-month practical implementation phase, where the trainees practically apply their learnt agripreneur skills for one growing season as their own business. They grow, market and sell their own produce to our identified market outlets.  In other words, they EARN while learning..

Post Training and Development

When the trainees complete the programme, they are settled on their own land. We connect them to funders, suppliers of infrastructure, farming facilities and inputs,  coaches and mentors, and markets, among other solutions.

Accredited SETA Skills Training Programmes

The AgriSETA Skills Training Programmes form a basis for young people to extend their skills in the specialized areas of plant production, providing the tools with which to establish sustainable farming operations through a broad spectrum of competencies that are required for farmers in South Africa.

Our AgriSETA Skills Training offering includes a 3-month Skills Development Short Courses Programme, and a 12-month Learnership Training Programme both of which consists of 40% theory and 60% practical training.

The Skills Development Programme

These are occupational based learning programmes which are presented as stand-alone modules, or can be packaged in such a way that they may ultimately lead, over time, to a full qualification.

This include short courses in Farm Financial Management, Crop Planning Planting, Disease and Pest Control, Harvesting and Marketing.

Our Learnership Training Programme

This is a vocational education and training programme that combines theory and practice, culminating in a qualification that is registered with SAQA.

Competencies developed included technical production, agri-business and good agricultural practices required by farmers to strive in agricultural management standards and practices at a higher level.

The Learnership Training Programme has a total of 142 credits which consist of 49-unit standards divided into Fundamentals, Core and Electives.

Enterprise Development

Agripreneurs move to their own Land

During the programme, we help the candidates gain access to land on which they would be settled once they complete the programme.

We also help them to connect with suitable funders, suppliers of farming infrastructure and farming inputs, coaches and mentors, and access to markets to get them ready for their own sustainable agribusiness on own agribusinesses.

Skills Development

Our skills development training is developed on the SAQA system to support and enhance the knowledge and skills of graduates, unemployed youth and women through the AG Learnership Intervention Programme and thus contributing to the society that will add value to our country through improved job performance.

The training is aimed at 40% theory and 60% practical work; the 9 months of training is theory and practical. The last 3months of training is fully practical work in the farm for application of what has been taught.
